Three Little Birds
An exhibition based on the singing birds of the Bijlmer and the halftime song of AJAX
Context
The Johan Cruijff Boulevard is built for large amounts of people yet lacks warmth and coziness.
Inspiration
Singing birds (and the songbird competition where trained bird listeners judge birds on their sound) is a well known tradition from Surinam that was brought to the Netherlands.
Concept
Audio installations were placed at three different locations at the Johan Cruijff Boulevard to fill the area with the sound of singing birds. The warm and friendly sound is a stark contrast against the cold environment. Beautiful photography of the men behind the birds that can also be found at the nearby café/restaurant JinSo, added by Jacquie Maria Wessels. To top it all off, an incredible artist that goes by the name of Airich, made artworks that capture the three elements on which the project is based; the singing birds, the song (three little birds) and AJAX.
